Hominis Canidae #93 - Fevereiro

track: A arte refinada de detectar mentiras
Marcelo Armani, piola + sampler
Guilherme Darisbo, electric guitar

A compilation by the site Hominis Canidae, showing a general view of actual music production in Brazil. Guilherme Darisbo + Marcelo Armani are in it with the track "A arte refinada de detectar mentiras" ("The refined art of detecting lies"), from the disc "Música Refinada" ("Refined/Cultivated Music").

This recording was released by Hominis Canidae (Recife, Brasil). Download it there.

Guilherme Darisbo + Marcelo Armani
Música Refinada

4 tracks, 32:27

Marcelo Armani, piola + sampler
Guilherme Darisbo, electric guitar

"Música Refinada" ("Refined Music") is the first album that Guilherme Darisbo and Marcelo Armani recorded together in the decade of 10. Recorded directly in a single session on January 4, 2013, without overdubs. Darisbo played electric guitar. Armani played a traditional instrument from Armanistan, the piola: rubbed string instrument built from a metal sink. "Música Refinada" ("Refined Music"), the album, presents four landscapes with extended notes and silences. At the time of the recording, the authors did not know how much their climate of isolation and self-exile would be prophetic.

In the same session the two albums from the series "Madeira", solos by Darisbo, were also recorded.

This recording was proudly released by my own label, Antena.art.br. Download it there (BandCamp) or there (Archive.org).

compilation
Corpórea - Música para guitarra

1 track (20 in total), 8:34 (126:48 in total)

track: Ouidah
Guilherme Darisbo, electric guitar

A compilation by Mansarda Records, with only music for guitar - as you could read, if you understand Portuguese -. 20 guitarists, at different levels of weirdness, show a (beatiful!) panorama of the instrument in Brazil today.

This recording was released by Mansarda Records (Porto Alegre, Brasil). Download it there (Mansarda's site) or there (Archive.org).

Animal Cracker + Crise Vitória
split

2 tracks (4 in total), 16:40 (29:50 in total)

Guilherme Darisbo: Crise Vitória

Split by the noise projects from Brazil and Uruguay, Crise Vitória and Animal Cracker. Crise Vitória (Victory Crisis) is a sound entity that manifests itself through Guilherme Darisbo. Composed mainly by amplified silence at full volume, it allows the appearance of evil frequencies. Animal Cracker is the noise music project by artist Matias Picón. In these two tracks, Picón uses mainly a Macovesky echo chamber, with effects and editions. All these tracks were recorded in São Paulo, in a lot of strange locations, like The Rabbit home in Bethlem or Potato's Square.

This recording was proudly released by my own label, Antena.art.br and, for a physical edition, by the label of Matías Picón, El Chivo Graba. Download it there (BandCamp) or there (Archive.org).

Crise Vitória
Cachorro melhor que criança

3 tracks, 32:29

Guilherme Darisbo: Crise Vitória

Crise Vitória is the new solo project of Guilherme Darisbo, making noise music from amplified silence. But not exactly. In fact, Crise Vitória is a sound entity that manifests itself through Guilherme Darisbo, creating a noisy ambience in full volume, which allows the appearance of badass frequencies. This recording is the first release of Crise Vitória ("Crisis Victory"), with three tracks based - in a very abstract way - on readings of Pepetela and Naomi Klein. "Cachorro melhor que criança" ("Dog better than child") was recorded in São Paulo, in three sessions during the damn year of 2016.

This recording was released by Abjection Productions (Canoas, Brazil). Download it there.

Hominis Canidae #76 - Setembro

track: Dura
Uirá dos Reis: computer
Guilherme Darisbo: quarter-tone electric guitar

Uirá dos Reis + Guilherme Darisbo + Thelmo Cristovam are in it with the track "Dura" ("Hard"), from the album "Da educação pela pedra" ("About the education through the stone / From the education through the stone").

This recording was released by Hominis Canidae (Recife, Brasil). Download it there.

Guilherme Darisbo + Uirá dos Reis + Thelmo Cristovam
Da educação pela Pedra

3 tracks, 46:09

Uirá dos Reis: computer
Guilherme Darisbo: quarter-tone electric guitar
Thelmo Cristovam: C melody saxophone, pocket trumpet, feedback

In 2013, without knowing in advance the presence of each other, Uirá and I spent the same week in Recife. We took advantage of this sincronicity and made with Thelmo a small series of presentations. In MAMAM - Museum of Modern Art Aloisio Magalhães -, with production of Estranhas Ocupações (estranhasocupacoes.bandcamp.com), we had this one that was one of most beautiful gigs that I remember I have made. Thelmo worked with beautiful feedbacks from his saxophone and trumpet, showing how much he likes Coltrane. Uirá created soundscapes by processing and distorting the readings of João Cabral. And, while I tried to understand the working of my new quarter-tone guitar, I played ghost-frequencies that appeared by psychoacoustics in the exact angle between the amplifier and the walls of the theater. The result was a concert made up with with silences, with stored sounds permanently waiting for others. From the recording of this show, we took three tracks for this album, released by Suburbana Co., Uirá's netlabel. I really like this record. Listen it.

Munhoz + Dias + Darisbo
Mordida

7 tracks, 71:38

Michel Munhoz, crash cymbal + another things that could be beated
Diego Dias, sax + clarinet
Guilherme Darisbo: Crise Vitória

Mordida (Bite) are Michel Munhoz, Diego Dias and me, and it is our first album. Munhoz played a crash cymbal, with several kinds of drumsticks or objects and with his characteristic Saracen affection. Dias played clarinet and tenor sax, in a way that sometimes we didn't know when sounds the instruments or the feedback, or both, and he never played so well. I played with - my new frankstein, my favorite toy, my noise box - the wonderful mixer in feedback, the Crise Vitória. The disc sounds surprisingly free jazz, but it's also jazz free. We are proud.

Blu Simon Wasem + Guilherme Darisbo
Nº 02

7 tracks, 34:03

Blu Simon Wasem, mainly bass
Guilherme Darisbo, mainly electric guitar

Blu Simon Wasem and Guilherme Darisbo known since last decade. At the time, they made noise music. After that, they returned to the ancient paradigm of musical instruments, to free improvisation, to kraut rock and jazz - and jazz can means everything -. Darisbo traveled to the hinterlands of South America, searching for Corto Maltese, to the Pacific. Blu was spending two weeks in Portugal, encouraged, from there went to Vienna, Istanbul, Lapland, Vietnam and Cambodia. He returns five years later. Darisbo never returns. When they met again, in southern Brazil, was recorded the session that gave birth to this album. All these things are here in some way. Please pay attention, there is always at least three songs playing at once. Today they are both in Minas Gerais, by pure coincidence.

André de Castro, sax
Guilherme Darisbo, effects + trumpet
Peter Gossweiler, drums

This is the #1 of a series of 3 recordings (all of these were recorded at the same studio session.) A nice session of this quartet. Not-so-jazzy and not-so-groovy, but sometimes jazzy and, oww, groovy, groovy. A so-mellow session, but with some effect layers in horns, to remember that the reality is a big big illusion. You know?
